It is a migratory shore bird known for its distinctive grey head, neck and breast contrasting with bold white belly and dark breast band. Specialised features include a bright yellow black tipped bill, they breed in north east india, china and Japan.It is mainly found in wetlands, rice fields, water logged areas.The clutch consists of four eggs in a simple ground scrape often in rice fields breeding accurs from march to July with incubation lasting for 29 days. Both parents share duties. Both sexes are similar males are heavier. If threatened parents will defend their nest or use distraction displays.
