Asian Open Bill

The Asian Open bill is a large wader in the stork family, It was described by French polymath George louis Leclerc Comte de Buffon in 1780 in his Histoire Naturalle des Oiseaux from a specimen in Pondichery India . The breeding season is from July to September, the nest is a rough platform of sticks on half submerged trees, clutch consists of four eggs. The incubation period is for 25 days both parents take turns. The Asian open bill prefer to locate in colonies in lowland Nepal. The chicks emerge with cream color and are shaded by the loosely outspread and drooped wings of the parent.
