Red Breasted Parakeet
This bird was formally described in 1758 by Swedish naturalist carl Linnaeus. The alternative name is moustached parakeet and is mainly seen at foothills of the Himalayas. I spotted this bird in kaziranga Assam like other parrots it is often seen in groups, the main attraction is the huge black thick stripe around the neck. The difference between male and female is male has a bright red bill female has black bill. The incubation period is 28 days 3 to4 eggs are laid in a clutch nest is in tree holes. Red breasted parrots are illegal trades in India. The male is bright is while the female is on the duller side, on the breast there is a reddish pink colour patch.
