Dove in nature
Zebra Dove Zebra dove is also known as barred ground dove or barred dove. It is a small bird with a long tail. Brownish grey in colour with black and white barring, this species is known for its pleasant soft cooling calls. They are also known as tukmo in Phillipines, perakutut in Indonesia and merbuk in Malaysia. The breeding season is from September to June. Males perform a courtship display where they bow and coo while raising and spreading the tail. Upon selection of the nesting site, the female will place herself there and make sounds. The nest is simple of platform leaves and grass blades built on bush trees. One or two eggs are laid and incubated by both parents. The young will leave the nest after two weeks and will fly after three weeks.
