Tawny fish owl

Owls are enigimatic birds with faces similar to humans and have fascinated mankind since time. These nocturnal birds of prey have an almost vertical stance and large head with flat faces. They have raptor like bills and talons. Owls have forward facing eyes that provide them with binocular vision. They also have bionaural hearing. The circle of stiff feathers around their eyes can gather sound and funnel them to their placed ears. This allows them to precisely locate the origin of sound. A vital skill while hunting in the dark. They have a unique ability to rotate their heads to 270 degrees. Their excellent low light vision means that many owl species are uncomfortable and blind during bright day light. Owls have acute sense of hearing, the owls ability to make no sound as they fly allows them to swoop without alerting their prey. Owls make a wide variety of calls, some of calls are scary. Which is probably one of the reasons for their near mythical status in ancient history. All owls are carnivorous. Depending on the size their prey can vary from mamals to insects while some ows are specially adapted to hunt fish. The tawny fish owl is the most attractive owl. The flight and tail feathers are dark brown and buffish, like other fish owls the tawny fish owl has large ear tuffs but are hanging at the sides of the head, eyes are yellow with black spot. I gad the privledge to hold this owl into my my hands at Singapore Jurong bird park at the birds of prey show.
