It is also known as spotted munia. It was formally described by carl Linnaeus in 1758. The adult has a stubby dark bill. The immature bird have a pale brown upper parts And lack the dark head like the adults and also do not have the spots like the adults as they keep growing the spots keep coming the male have darker spots then the female. The male looks more attractive because of its darker spots and the dark silver bill, as in the case of a human being it is the female which is more attractive in case of birds it is the opposite the males are more attractive then females. This bird is found in India, Sri lanka, Indonesia, Phillippines . It has also being introduced to many parts of the world. It has its own nest in gardens. It loosely constructs a grass ball with side entrance and lays 4 to 5 eggs. Its name is based on the distinct scale like feather markings on the breast and belly.
