black neck stork
It is a huge striking bird with a large wing span. The head neck, wing bar and tail are jet black while the rest of the plumage is white, including flight feathers. Both sexes are identical except the females yellow irish. The juvenile is mainly brown with greyish legs. This bird is other a white bird with a green sheen on its long thin neck. It has a dark bill and long red neck. This bird is very wary and quick to take flight. In flight it looks lanky and white with a black band across the wings. I first spotted this bird at kaziranga park in assam on my recent trip I was fascinated and thrilled to see this bird, specially the glittering eyes which are yellowish in color. This bird mainly feeds on fish and other reptiles. It is also known to capture waterbirds bash them to death and gulp them.
